Chapter 1- A Story of Hope…Hope Callies

Chapter One… Hope Callies

Hope Callies was her name. She had silky, light blonde hair that is up to her shoulders. Hope also had olive green eyes, which shimmer in the sunlight. Hope wasn’t very tall, she was just the average of her age; which was 13. Everyone in her school knew Hope…she had many friends who were loyal to her and her family. She had a beautiful personality… she was kind, peaceful, respectful, honest and many more.

Hope had a family of 8; Her mom, brother and 6 sisters…including herself. Her dad passed away of lung cancer 5 years ago when she was only 8 years old…and yet she was the youngest.

Her mom’s name was Victoria Callies. Hope’s mom works at a local supermarket as a cashier. She doesn’t get much money, but she doesn’t really care either because all she cares about is her family… and at least she gets money she can put some food on the table. Hope’s oldest sibling, her brother, who’s name is Justin, is 20. He still lives with his mom, because he’s trying to help her with managing the income. Yet they’re still struggling to keep their house… Justin and the rest of the family are trying to have a positive attitude with life.

Hope’s older sisters named: Casey, Jennifer, Amber, April and Marie were all worried about the family’s income as well. They weren’t legal age yet to have a job, except for Casey, who’s 18. They’re family can’t afford college.. never mind about university. So Casey, just like Justin and their mom are working as cashiers. Jennifer, age 17 , is working as a babysitter. She usually just gets around $10 per visit, as the neighbourhood knows nothing about the crisis their family is in. Amber, age 16, she doesn’t have a job, but in high school she is taking a website course where she can, supposedly, make good money. April (age 15) and Marie (age 14) are unemployed, and not getting a job as a cashier, because they would have to wait 4 years until they can.

The reason why Hope’s name is Hope because when she was born, her dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. Why it took 9 years for him to die? Well, it’s because for 4 years he never knew he had lung cancer. Yet he was a smoker. Then for 1 year they have thought the cancer went away. It came back and for 4 years he was struggling to survive. So Hope barely even know what her dad looks like… and she wished that her dad had never passed away… on June 17th,1980… on Hope’s 9th birthday.
